A substantial mountain day involving 18km of walking and 900m of ascent. The walk starts in Buttermere and takes the path up to Scale Force, the Lake District’s highest waterfall. The path beside the waterfall is delightful and leads on to the summit of Red Pike. From here the route follows the spectacular ridge path to High Stile and on to High Crag. A descent via Scarth Gap leads to a pleasant walk along the Buttermere lake shore and back to the village.
